NV Choice Scholarships

Nevada Educational Choice Scholarship Program (AB 165)

Description:

Assembly Bill 165 (Statutes of Nevada 2015, Chapter 22) (AB 165) provides for a tax credit against the Modified Business Tax for businesses that donate money to a qualified Scholarship Grant Organization (SG0) that will in turn award grants to qualifying applicants across Nevada.

This is an income based scholarship and parents can apply for each child and receive funds to pay tuition at a registered private school of their choice. Funds are distributed quarterly. Parents are responsible to keep tuition and fees current until funds are received.

You can find the bill at:www.leg.state.nv.us/App/NELIS/REL/78th2015/Bill/1513/Overview

You can find out more information about this bill on the Nevada Department of Education site

Grant Amounts:

The maximum amount of a grant provided for each student in the 2016-2017 school year is $7,763 (this amount could adjust slightly each year) and may be used for tuition, fees, textbooks, school supplies & possibly transportation. One family application covers all children of that family in grades K-12.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a resident of Nevada
  • Qualifying family income levels are attached to the Federal Poverty Level as posted in Jan/Feb for the new year.
  • Awards granted on a first come first serve basis of those who qualify (get your complete application in early).

Application Process:

A Parent/Guardian wishing to apply for Education Choice Scholarships needs to apply with any state of Nevada qualified Scholarship Grant Organization (SGO). We encourage you to apply to all the organizations because if one runs out of funds before your child is awarded a scholarship another may still have funds available. All of the SGOs listed below are for students anywhere in the state of Nevada. There is a $25 application fee.
